Work-life balance. Staying effective and happy.

Work-life balance. Staying effective and happy.

The term "work-life balance" emerged in the mid-80sin the UK as a slogan for women. It was women who were striving to balance work with family responsibilities because they had many duties on their shoulders. They achieved flexible schedules, maternity leave, and activity in the workplace. The modern term is more associated with psychology and coaches who help individuals, regardless of gender, to balance and organize their time management. It's challenging to realize that we spend a third of our lives at work. As a result, many problems, anxieties, stress, and overtime tasks are often transferred home, where the balance of personal life is lost, and harmony is disrupted. The most common issue addressed by psychologists is the blurring of boundaries, where work becomes life, instead of living and working, and fulfilling one's desires through work. People have stopped enjoying life and appreciating simple things. The boundaries set by many employers are extremely rigid to meet the demands of being the best employee, department, or company, always striving to stay on top. The race for popularity and new trends... Of course, employers offer many perks, but they lack both the energy and the desire. Chronic fatigue, constant competition, and stress quickly take their toll. Burnout and loss of the taste for life and the present moment occur. Productivity is disrupted.

HR professionals were the first to recognize this problem at work because they work closely with personnel. During "one to one" meetings, problems and their chronology repeatedly surfaced. The situation worsened significantly with remote work, as this format blurs the line between work and personal life. Employees are constantly connected, working late into the night and early in the morning, sometimes even from their own beds. All of this, of course, puts a strain on the nervous system and leads to breakdowns.

How to avoid the destructive force of imbalance?

First, set boundaries for your work schedule, tasks, and the time you spend on work.

Second, use your free time for yourself and talk less about work and work-related problems.

Third, engage in hobbies, explore new interests, travel, spend time with friends, celebrate holidays, take walks in nature—anything that can lighten your load and inspire you to live your life!

Don't be afraid to decline uncomfortable requests from colleagues and set boundaries. Learn to enjoy your free time and use it for your physical and emotional well-being.

Practice mindfulness in your life! Understand what you do in your life and why. Mindfulness helps you uncover the complexity and meaning of life. Study your desires, set personal goals, and let your work help you achieve them.

After such practices, you become a harmonious person who knows your worth, knows how to enjoy the moment, and truly be happy, rather than just playing the role. In such a harmonious state, you will attract happy people who know how to live life. Because being happy in modern times is very challenging, and it requires learning. Of course, then you will not want to waste your precious time on things you don't love, but you will find time to search for what truly inspires you.
